Sahoko Blake
In this exhibition, Sahoko has taken her inspiration from the Prehistoric "Bog Bodies" & Landscape locations in which these remarkable finds were made. In her drawings she skilfully portrays with a rich tonality the humanity of these bodies, which had lain pressed in the Peat & Undisturbed for thousands of years. Her paintings give a sense of Locations to the finds and also to what is perhaps the last of these once great bogs in Western Europe. Sahoko K. Blake was born in Tokyo graduating from University there in 1991 with degree in Fine Art & Art Literature. She moved to Ireland 1996 and since then has exhibited extensively here and abroad, including solo shows in 2003 at the Kent gallery in Kinsale and in 2005 at Dalkey Arts in Co. Dublin, and an exhibition with Tim Goulding in 2004 at the Mermaid Arts Centre Bray. She has exhibited in the RHA Annual Exhibitions in 1999 and 2002, and has been an invited artist in 2006 and 2008. She runs highly respected Life Drawing Classes at her own studio, as well as being an invited tutor on drawing courses in the Alexandra College, National Gallery of Ireland and RHA. Sahoko K. Blake lives & works in Co.Wicklow. |
