Sahoko Blake

Sahoko Blake was born in Tokyo, Japan. In 1991 she graduated from University there with a degree in Fine Art & Art Literature. Shortly afterwards, she began working for a Japanese Television Documentary Production, specialising in underwater photography programmes. She moved to Ireland in 1996 and became a full member of the Association of Artists in Ireland. Since then she has exhibited extensively both here and abroad, including having a solo show in 2003 at the Kent Gallery in Kinsale, and a two-person show with Tim Goulding at the Mermaid Art Centre in Bray, in 2004. She has exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibitions (2000, 2002) and in the Solomon Gallery Group Shows (every year since 1998). She was an invited artist at Eigse, Carlow in 2003 and also runs highly respected Life Drawing Classes at her own studio as well as being an invited tutor on drawing courses in the National Gallery of Ireland and the Royal Hibernian Academy. Her main focus at present is the human form, its endless changing nature, and its morality, which she gives expression to in large charcoal drawings and oil on canvas.
